Images

I have found Wikimedia commons the best site for public domain images. Very few are copyrighted, and they explain the issues of copyright pretty well. When you search for images try looking for a category. To do this type in the search box. Start by typing category followed by a colon (Vietnam War:). After the colon type in a keyword. You will be given a large list of items within this category, as well as many subcategories. A cool trick is to type Category: and then follow it with a year. Give it a try!

Primary Sources

I tried to include sites for different levels. The Library of Congress is a great site, but it requires some advanced searching skills, and can be frustrating to younger students. Digital Vaults and Library of Congress for Kids is more appropriate for middle school or elementary. The site that gives you links is a combination of different levels. 

Music

I have always been a bit frustrated with finding music or sounds. I can't find music/sounds that are in the public domain, or I can't download a file that I can use. Luckily this is starting to change. There are sites now promoting music that can be used. I included a site that gives a lot of links. Make sure to check this carefully. If you have a Mac Garageband is very good, and PC people should take a look at studiojam.com, this is not a free site, but you can make your own music.
